Just last month I was saying farewell to a nostalgic piece of Disney history (for me, anyway), and now it’s time to send off two more chunks of my childhood. August 13th was the last day of operations for both The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios and Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Epcot. While these certainly weren’t the most thrilling or popular attractions, they’re very near and dear to my heart because they hold a lot of memories for me. The Great Movie Ride made me appreciate classic films that I’d never seen. Ellen’s Energy Adventure was the perfect place to take a nap for 45 minutes.
We decided to go say goodbye, at least to The Great Movie Ride. Disney was kind enough to lift the summer blockout early for passholders so that we could pay our respects.
The Great Movie Ride
The wait time was a whopping 105 minutes, which was the longest I’d ever seen for this ride! Thankfully, we’d planned ahead and gotten fastpasses ages ago, even before we were sure that we would be able to go.
The rest of the day included receiving free ham & cheese pretzels because we looked like lost tourists, not getting to be the rebel spy on Star Tours :(, and deciding to go home early instead of trying to endure the sticky humidity to bid farewell to Ellen and Bill Nye over at Epcot. Although we didn’t get to give it a proper send off, I think I should present a brief homage to this beautiful relic.
